Held, Brushes with Cancer, 2015
Held is about love. The young woman I was partnered with is surviving a brain tumour. Aside from her radiant smile and generous spirit, what struck me most is how much love surrounds her. Imagine the courage it took to plan a wedding in the middle of chemotherapy. After spending time with her, I fell asleep with the word “cherished” in my mind. To me, surviving cancer is a testimony to the limitless power of love to heal. The power of love found within the support of family, friends, caregivers and the self.
