Paint the Halls, Art Battle
75 Artists, 75 Walls, 75 Minutes

painthalls5Paint the Halls Women’s College Hospital was organized by Art Battle Canada to raise funds for the hospital’s renovations. 75 artists were selected to create a  large original painting on the walls of the newly closed wing of the hospital in 75 minutes. Tickets were sold and approximately 1,000 visitors watched the work unfold before their eyes.  The wall paintings were destroyed when the building was demolished shortly after the event. However, high quality posters of the finished paintings were sold to record the work and to raise additional funds.

For the four and a half years we lived in Guelph, I rented studio space and focused on making art full time.  These photos are from some of the open houses I hosted during that time.

Pure Potential, Solo Exhibition, *new* gallery, Queen St. West, TO, 2010

The paintings in Pure Potential Exhibition coincide with my early shamanic training. They explore ideas about transformation and energy as a life force permeating everything.  I sat the show myself and received feedback from hundreds of visitors over the few weeks the show was up.  It was a tremendous learning experience for me.

New Moon Rising, *new* gallery, Queen St. West, TO, 2009

The paintings in New Moon Rising actually led to the study of energy medicine with the Four Winds Society. Sitting the exhibition allowed me to spend prolonged time with the work and revealed images I would now call shamanic in nature. They were filled with transformation and flux and prompted me to explore shamanism in depth.

Vermont Studio Residency, Nov – Dec. 2008

Jane-Graham-Award

In order to deepen my painting practice and meet other artists in a larger community, I applied for and was granted a half fellowship for a one month residency at the Vermont Studio Center.  I was also fortunate to win the Jane Graham Award to put towards the expenses for the residency. In preparation, I made 10 4′ x 6′ canvases as well as many smaller ones. My van was loaded to the hilt as I ventured off to Vermont with much excitement.

This experience was incredibly inspiring and expanding and resulted in the seeds of two solo exhibitions the following 2 years; New Moon Rising and Pure Potential, both show at *new gallery*, Queen Street West, TO, ON.

Women Painting Canada – Artists Collective, 2003 -2009

Inspired by Canadian painters including the Group of Seven and Emily Carr, 8 women artists gathered to form a collective in their shared love of Canada. The group aspired to establish a momentum for a new Female Canadian Identity regarding their connectedness to this nation and this earth. The group launched with a working trip to British Columbia to visit Emily Carr’s painting haunts.  The group met in Nanaimo and travelled thru the interior to Tofino and Ucluelet. We painted in the rain forest and along the shores of the west coast savouring the sites and recording our journey for future inspiration.

Flaming Spirit Artists Collective – 1998 – 2006

I started painting after leaving the corporate marketing world in 1997 and soon found myself connected to several emerging artists.  We formed a collective in 1998 largely influenced by teacher and painter M. Douglas Walton.

Giving and sharing are the foundation of my practice and I'm delighted to be able to support organizations like the Unstoppable Foundation which strives to ensure every child has access to education.  Over the years I have donated works of art in support of several hospitals, survivor groups, environmental and gallery fundraisers like the MacDonald Stewart Art Gallery now known as The Art Gallery of Guelph.
