_PIC9183Making artwork is the best way I know to digest and integrate the ideas I am exploring. Working with my hands takes me out of my linear thinking mind and allows me to access other, more fluid, ways of seeing.  I love it when the work surprises me.  When I’m really connected, it takes on a life of its own and takes me on a journey. My job is to get out of the way and follow the connecting webs.

For some time now I have been immersed in the notion of interconnectedness and oneness.  Of course this comes from encountering perceived separation or barriers. So many old structures are falling at this time of huge change in our culture, natural resources, in the world at large and for the planet. With seven billion people rubbing shoulders and vying for resources, our interdependence is becoming undeniable. Never has it been so possible to bring together masses of people in a shared belief. Never has it been so crucial to come together in a circle of sharing and collaboration.

As science confirms our co-creative impact on our environment and reality, Einstein’s shrewd question “Is it a friendly universe?” becomes as urgent as it is pertinent. In making art and in working with the subtle energies surrounding our physical bodies, I am constantly navigating between the seen and unseen worlds where the raw material of creation pulses like a heartbeat.  Both worlds access that fertile and magnetic field of pure potential where anything is possible.

My recent work reflects thinking about unity and worlds mixing harmoniously. Whether painting, sculpting or weaving, I continue to explore notions of fertility, energy as pure creative potential and transformation. I’m interested in cycles, worlds within worlds, ancient symbols of wholeness including mandalas, moon and star shapes, spirals, webs and nests. As a result, there is a strong female presence in much of the work.

donation

Giving and sharing are the foundation of my practice and I'm delighted to be able to support organizations like the Unstoppable Foundation which strives to ensure every child has access to education.  Over the years I have donated works of art in support of several hospitals, survivor groups, environmental and gallery fundraisers like the MacDonald Stewart Art Gallery now known as The Art Gallery of Guelph.
